I wanted to share my personal interpretation:
The big woman-creature is personified fear or a personified source of fear. The surroundings simply represent an extention of fear in the surroundings. The only entities who are not a part of fear are the two kids. The picture shows the relation of the two persons/children to (their own) fear.
The girl "has seen" fear (her eyes are not covered) and has arranged herself with the situation. She seems to be shy and not very happy with the current situation (body language), but she manages. The boy on the other hand has a bag over his head, so he cannot "see" his fear. He seems to be terrified (body language + drawing on bag). Because he tries to escape, fear has him tied on a leash. For both persons the situation is "inescapable", they cannot escape their own feelings.

The picture may be a statement on our culture, where boys are supposed to not show "girly" emotions, like fear, while girls are free to express all types of emotions. By admitting to and exploring ones own emotions instead of trying to suppress or deny them, one learns to deal with them and also to better control ones own reactions to these emotions. The feelings themselves will not go away either way. But accepting ("seeing") them may lead to more healthy and productive results.

It may also represent the following statement: When afraid of something many people tend to show avoidant behavior, which usually only increases the fear of the respective entity or situation. Chosing this interpretation the picture shows the boy exhibiting this kind of behavior, while the girl has faced the object/situation she dreaded and was able to find a way to deal with this type of object/situation without panicking and avoiding it anymore. Again, though, her feelings won't simply go away. The girl is also the only one able to see that the "blood" on the floor is just paint (the bucket is right next to her), so maybe she encountered information / had experiences, which took away some of the horror the object/situation emanates for her.

--> I think both these interpretations fit the title.

I'm interested in your views as well! ^^
(I have read the comments so far, but noone suggested any association similar to mine.)

Some people suggested that the big woman-creature might be their mom. Well, I can't come up with any interpretation that I could relate to where that would be an option. I guess my mom was nice to me when I was a child... :P

Btw.: I LOVE THE PICTURE!!! <3<3<3

I know this is supposed to be disturbing, but the face on that bag is hilarious. Like, that's not even his real face. He could be totally bored under there. He probably can't even see all this creepy imagery around him.
